We would LOVE it if you joined us again or for the first time!
This is it folks! We are coming in hot for the tenth and final Mike Hike! I’m not sure how many times I’ve said, “This is the last one”….but I’m saying it again. This is the last one! The 2025 hike will be earlier so that all four kids can be there. Somehow Peace Corps still exists and Jonah will be leaving August 25 for Namibia.
Please read through all the information below and register! I am asking for everyone who is participating to have a buddy, be helpful and to please bring everything you need for a day on the trail. If you are under 18, I need to know the adult who will be responsible for you. SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM TO REGISTER.
T-shirts and updated sweatshirts for those who haven’t gotten one yet! We are selling Mike Hike merch through Bonfire. Click the ‘Mike Hike merch’ to head to the Bonfire page. The sweatshirts are made to order and take about two weeks to arrive.
Information about the hike:
Full Hike 10 1/2 miles: 8:30a.m. Gathland Sate Park to downtown Harpers Ferry
ADDRESS: Gathland State Park 900 Arnoldtown Rd, Jefferson, MD 21755
Last 3 1/2 miles: About 12:30p.m. Weverton Cliffs parking lot to downtown Harpers Ferry
ADDRESS: Weverton Cliffs Parking Lot - 340 to 67 North and take an immediate right onto Weverton Rd, and the parking lot is just down from there. It is literally 1/2 minute off of 340
The first 7 miles are extremely rocky with some gradual and moderate inclines. You will not be climbing rocks - but you will need to constantly watch your step. The end of this section is a mile long decline down the mountain with many switchbacks.
The last 3 1/2 miles are a short trail through some woods, under a bridge, across some railroad tracks and then a long stretch along the Potomac river - which is flat and graveled.
The end will be crossing the bridge into Harpers Ferry - where the Potomac River meets the Shenandoah River.
Please have a back pack with: lots of water, snacks, lunch, a walking pole or stick if you want, layers, toilet paper, and whatever else you need. There will be some water available at Weverton cliffs parking lot for those who have run out - and maybe some snacks.
There are public restrooms at Gathland State Park, an outhouse (without toilet paper) about 4 miles in at the Ed Garvey Shelter, and public restrooms in Harpers Ferry, other than that - it's you and nature.
Parking - There will be shuttle buses at the end to take us back to our cars.
